Welcome Back to the MM Racing newsletter!
Wow. It's been a while since our last newsletter and it would be an understatement to say a lot has happened. We'll do our best to catch you up on all of the latest MM Racing news. But first, we'd like to welcome new readers to our newsletter. If you bought a raffle ticket during our Cyclocross World's Fundraiser and you weren't already subscribed to our newsletter, well, you are now! But don't worry; we don't send out too many updates and you can always unsubscribe by clicking the link below.
Okay. We have big news. Really big news, if you haven't heard it already. But you'll have to wait until the end of the newsletter to find out. So read on. We have lots to catch up on.
This past summer has been filled with long hours of training hours and plenty of racing to keep us so busy that it's hard to believe it's almost Fall! Beginning in the early spring Mo has spent most weekends at mountain bike and road races across the northeast. Mo raced to four wins in the Root 66 Mountain Bike series and is currently second overall in the series. Mo also toed the line at the Tour of the Battenkill, The Quabbin Reservoir Road Race, Housatonic Hills, the Sterling Road Race, The Fitchburg Stage Race and criteriums in Matt's hometown of Beverly, MA and across the bridge in Salem, MA. Mo also headed to Quebec for two of the very competitive Canada Cup races. Man, that's a lot of racing… and it isn't even racing season yet! Bring on the Cyclocross!
Meanwhile, Matt put the tools and tubular glue away and rode more than twice as many miles in half of the number of events! Matt raced in his first USCF road races since breaking his hip in 2006. It was good to be back in the mix. He also completed a full Brevet Series (100K, 200K, 300K, 400K, 600K, plus extra 300k and 350k events for good measure) and qualified for the R60 award for finishing each of the Brevet events under 60% of the allotted time. This includes riding the final 600K (379 miles!) in under 24 hours! Unfortunately for Matt, the 600km ride lead to some muscle tears and tendinitis in his surgically repaired hip putting a hiccup into his summer plans. The last seven weeks have been a constant flurry of visits to chiropractors, acupuncturists, massages therapists (fortunately, he knows a good one) and physical therapists. Matt is happily on the mend and ready to set his biggest goal of the season: Maine West to East.
Matt will wrap up his ultra endurance riding this summer by setting another Cross State Record for the state of Maine. On August 23rd, Matt will ride West to East, starting in Fryeburg, ME on the New Hampshire border and finishing at the Eastern most point in the US, Quoddy Head State Park in Lubec Maine. The last time Matt set a record in Maine, in 2007, it was North to South. Like last time, Matt will be raising money for the Spaulding Rehabilitation Hospital's Adaptive Sports and Recreation Program. Check out Matt's FirstGiving page here. You can also track Matt's progress on the day of the event, Monday, August 23rd, on twitter (@mm_racing) or via Spot satellite tracking.
Okay, you've made it this far. Now for the big news!
For the 2010/2011 season, Mo has a new title sponsor!
Are you ready?
It's Bob's Red Mill! Based in the Cyclocross Mecca of the Pacific Northwest, Portland, OR, Bob's Red Mill has been a big supporter of cyclocross for last few years, sponsoring the two national cyclocross series, many local events and a grassroots team.
Check out the press release from Bob's Red Mill:

A little bit about Bob's Red Mill:
Bob's Red Mill Natural Foods, a distinctive stone grinding miller of whole grains, was founded in 1978 with the mission of moving people back to the basics with healthy whole grains, high-fiber and complex carbohydrates. Bob's Red Mill, now an employee-owned company, offers a diverse line of more than 300 all natural, organic and gluten-free flours, cereals, meals and mixes for pancakes, cakes, cookies, breads and soups.
In 2009, we were lucky enough to make contact with Matt Cox, the winner of the 2009 Golden Spurtle at the World Porridge Making Championships in Scotland. In addition to being the Spurtle King, Matt is the Marketing Director at Bob's Red Mill and after a visit to BRM HQ and a number of emails and phone calls, Bob and the gang offered to support Mo's cyclocross endeavors. We couldn't be happier! It's a perfect fit for us and we are really excited to be flying the Bob's Red Mill colors around the country (and Europe!) this fall and winter. Next time you are at the grocery store, buy some Bob's Red Mill. You'll love it.
We are also very happy to have continued support from Seven Cycles. Seven will be the presenting sponsor for us in 2010 and Mo will be racing on the beautiful Mudhoney SLX 'cross frames freshened up for looming 'cross season. SRAM has also returned as a sponsor and Mo will be racing on SRAM's premier RED gruppo this season.
Other returning sponsors include Mavic, TRP, Fizik, Mad Alchemy, Bonfire Health, and Thule. We are also happy to bring in new sponsors, Challenge Tires and New England Athletic.
In our next newsletter, we'll give you an update on our 2010/2011 racing calendar and a rundown on Matt's Maine West to East record attempt. We'll also have some pictures of Mo's 'cross rigs for the upcoming season.
If you just can't get enough MM Racing, you can follow us on Twitter (Matt: @mm_racing, Mo: @meaux_marie). Matt has also started to contribute to the Embrocation Cycling Journal. He has a short article in print in Volume 5 and has written two articles for the online version (with more to come).
That's it for now! Thanks for reading!
